On 26th and 28th May 2023, Ekagraa Svarasa Academy, a renowned institute for Odissi classical dance training in Bangalore, celebrated its inaugural Annual event, KALA-DHI 2023. The evening of 26th May was a mesmerizing display that showcased the vibrant cultural heritage of Odisha. Our primary goal was to create a captivating showcase of Odissi, a classical dance form from Odisha, India. We presented three distinct styles, integrating dance, music, and choreography to embody the essence of Odissi. By delving into Odia traditions, folklore, and mythology, we aimed to transport the audience into the heart of Odisha’s cultural tapestry. Focusing on the audience in Bangalore, we aimed to immerse them in the beauty and grandeur of Odissi, leaving a lasting impact and igniting a sense of wonder and appreciation for this ancient art form. Our objective was to present Odissi in its purest form, honoring its legacy and inviting the audience on a transformative journey.
The prestigious KALA-DHI 2023 event hosted esteemed guests and legendary figures of Odissi dance, including Smt. Sikata Das, Smt. Pranati Mohanty, Smt. Suhag Nalini Das, Smt. Leena Mohanty, and Shri Saswat Joshi. Having received training from renowned gurus such as Adiguru Shri Pankaj Charan Das, Guru Shri Kelucharan Mohapatra, and Guru Shri Debaprasad Das, these individuals expertly embodied the choreographic processes established by the architects of Odissi dance. Their captivating performances showcased mesmerizing pieces from the divine repertoire of this art form, paying tribute to its rich heritage and artistic legacy.
The event stood out for several compelling reasons:

Complementary Costumes: Thoughtfully chosen costumes for each performer harmonized with the characters they portrayed, elevating the visual appeal and adding depth to their performances, contributing to the overall aesthetic experience.
Theatrical Excellence: One particular performance stood out for its theatrical quality, utilizing props to create a captivating and engaging experience for the audience, leaving a lasting impression.

In the presence of remarkable and unique performing artists, the audience in Bangalore experienced an enchanting evening filled with divine energy. Each step, expression, and Abhinaya act exuded a sense of divinity, captivating the hearts of all present. The artists not only showcased the mesmerizing evolution of Odissi dance but also shared insightful explanations, serving as a source of motivation, inspiration, and knowledge. The A.D.A Rangamandira in Bangalore resonated with the cultural opulence and proud heritage of Odisha, creating an atmosphere brimming with positivity and heavenly grace.
