by | May 1, 2022

Vid. KalavathyAvadhoot performed a Carnatic concert for Ananya as part of the monthly concert series. It was of an exalted rank soaked in melody, and well supported by Vid.Mattur Srinidhi on violin, Vid. B C Manjunath on mridanga and Vid.Bharadwaj Sathavalli on morsing.

Beginning the concert with kalyANivarNa vanajAksha, she then presented swAminAthaparipAlaya in nATTa with apt kalpanaswara patterns in the charaNa line ‘vAmadevapArvati’. bAlAmbikAyah param in kAnaDa and summanedorakuvdude in pUrvikalyANi followed in the slower kAlapramANa with the latter getting a suitable rAgaAlApana and kalpanaswara as ‘sub-main’ kriti. A more pacy version of kamalAptakula in brindAvanasAranga and bhOgindrashAyinam followed, leading the concert to the main piece kaligiyunTe, the classic kriti of Saint Tyagraja in kIravAni. The raga was filled with soukhya and, neraval and swara manodharma were very well presented. The concert came to a close with EevELanannubrOvara, khamaskriti of Badrachala Ramadas, and binnahakebayillavayya, kriti of Purandaradasa set to rAga darbari kAnaDa. – Pavan Rangachar
